The American Choral Directors Association is the world’s largest organization for choral directors. Its 20,000-plus members are leaders of choruses of all kinds, elementary school through university choruses, church and temple choirs, community choruses and professional choirs, plus representatives of the music industry. Among its services ACDA offers the Choral Journal, a multi-national professional network and annual conventions. National conventions occur in odd-numbered years and alternate with seven division conventions in even years. Membership in national ACDA automatically includes membership in a regional division and a state chapter or affiliate.
The American Choral Directors Association / New Jersey believes that good music provides a vital and aesthetic experience that reflects the human spirit and nurtures the mind and soul. The goal of NJACDA is to champion choral music in our educational institutions, communities, and houses of worship by promoting standards of excellence in music literature and performance for choruses at all levels. Its activities include (1) assisting with instruction, demonstration and example, (2) offering a medium for the exchange of ideas, techniques and expertise in the choral art, (3) supporting the sharing of choral music from a wide variety of historical, ethnic and cultural sources, and (4) urging active member participation in local, regional, national and international choral activity. NJACDA actively supports lifelong participation and education in music and the other fine and performing arts.
NJACDA, our New Jersey Chapter, offers its 420-plus members professional contact, assistance and a variety of activities and assistance at the local level. In addition to the Choral Journal, members receive information from our website (www.njacda.com), the National and Eastern Division websites, and periodic “e-blasts” from our Board. NJACDA offers an annual two-day summer conference, a long established High School Choral Festival involving dozens of choruses, an Elementary/Junior High Honor Choir Honor Choirs in cooperation with NJMEA, now in its twenty-first year, and additional periodic workshops in specific areas, e.g. for Men’s Music, Choral Workshops for Women, or for Ethnic and Multicultural Music. In 2015 we will offer a Collegiate Choral Festival for the first time in many years.
Please join us! If you are involved in directing choral music of any kind in New Jersey, we invite you to become a member of NJACDA. We would like to know you, and be a useful network and professional resource for you.
