Below are the steps for elementary and junior high directors to sign students up for the audition process. Please read the directions carefully.
To send students to audition, directors must be current members of either ACDA or NAfME. Before proceeding, please double-check and renew your membership as needed. Applications will not be accepted without proof of current membership in one of the organizations.
Everything on this checklist must be complete and postmarked no later than Friday January 12, 2018. There will be no late submissions accepted – including partial submissions.
Step 1: Update NAfME/ACDA Membership
Please ensure your membership for NAfME/ACDA is up-to-date – otherwise students will be disqualified!
Step 2: Collect Student Information
Collect student names as well as all e-mail addresses and phone numbers of students who are auditioning. You may choose to collect this information via any method you choose. At the same time, you should collect $8 from each student (either cash or check made out to you).
Step 3: Record Student MP3 Auditions
Using a handheld recorder, computer, or smartphone app, record each student’s individual audition. Audition requirements may be found on our main page. If you need assistance, please ask your building’s technology coordinator.
Step 4: Save Student MP3 Auditions
Make sure to save each MP3 file in the following format:
Ensemble (E or JH) Voice Part – Last Name First Name
E Treble I – Smith Susie.mp3
JH Tenor II – Jones John.mp3
**Files that are not named appropriately may result in disqualification so please take time to check before uploading. Do not abbreviate voice parts (for example: Soprano I should be spelled out instead of Sop I) If you need assistance, please ask your building’s technology coordinator.
Step 5: Fill out Individual Student Audition Forms
Using the information you collected as well as your student MP3 audition files (saved correctly), please fill out
Step 6: Fill out Director Form
After filling out the information for every student, please fill out this director form. One of the questions asks for the number of students auditioning, so please do not complete this form before submitting all your students.
Step 7: Mail Your Check
There is an audition fee of $8.00 per student. Directors are to mail one check made out to “NJMEA” (not ACDA!) for the combination of all of the student audition fees FOR EACH CHOIR. For example if a director has 4 students auditioning for Elementary, they would write out one check to NJMEA for $32.00.The director’s name and school are included on the check or on an attached note.
