All audition information for the NJ Elementary and Junior High All State Choir Festival will be posted on this site. Below is the basic information about what will need to be prepared. As the due date gets closer, there will be explanations about how to upload your audition information onto this website.

Audition Timing:

All materials are due by Friday, January 12, 2018

Materials Needed for Audition:

One mp3 recording for each student that contains the two vocalise/scales and the solo. Please note that a director can only submit 16 auditions per school/organization.

One Student Form filled out (on this website) for each student which includes basic information such as:

  • Student’s name, grade, and voice part
  • Parent’s name, phone, and email

One Director Form filled out (on this website) which includes basic information such as:

  • Personal information – name, address, phone, email, etc.
  • School information – name and address
  • Your NAfME or ACDA membership cards that will need to be scanned and uploaded onto this site

There is an audition fee of $8.00 per student. Directors are to mail one check made out to “NJMEA” for the combination of all of the student audition fees to their appropriate manager FOR EACH CHOIR. For example if a director has 4 students auditioning for Elementary, they would write out one check to NJMEA for $32.00. Please include the director’s name and school on either the check or an attached note.

Once accepted, students will need to pay $25.00 for an application fee.

Music Information:

Each student is required to record two vocalise/scales and a recording of the solo, which this year will be the beginning of “The Turtle Dove”.  The student may be given the starting pitch, but each section of the audition should be sung unaccompanied.  

They should use the following script when creating their audition recording:

“Hello, my name is_____, I am in the ____ grade and I am auditioning for the voice part of ______. 
My starting pitch for my first vocalise/scale is ______. (SING FIRST VOCALISE/SCALE)
My starting pitch for my second vocalise/scale is _________. (SING SECOND VOCALISE/SCALE)
My starting pitch for “The Turtle Dove” is ______.” (SING THE TURTLE DOVE)

  • E above middle C
  • C5 (one octave above middle C)

Vocalise Treble II

  • D above middle C

Part I: Starting Pitch = C# above C5, (high note is F#)

Part II: Starting Pitch = B above middle C, (high note is E)

Part III: Starting Pitch = A above middle C, (high note is D)

  • E above middle C
  • A above middle C

Scales for Soprano II

  • D above middle C
  • G above middle C

Scales for Alto

  • A below middle C
  • E above middle C

  • E below middle C (may be sung descending first)
  • G below middle C

  • B a 9th below middle C
  • D below middle C

  • G 11th below middle C (may be sung descending first)
  • C an octave below middle C

  • Soprano 1 – Starting Pitch = D above C5,  (high note is G)
  • Soprano 2 -Starting Pitch = C5, (high note is F)
  • Alto – Starting Pitch = A above middle C, (high note is D)
  • Tenor  – Starting Pitch = Middle C, (high note is F)
  • Bass 1 – Starting Pitch = G below middle C, (high note is C)
  • Bass 2 – Starting Pitch = E below middle C,  (high note is A)
