A Capella/Jazz/Show Choir Chair

Heather Lockart teaches vocal music at Cherry Hill East High School, where she conducts several choirs including Vocal Workshop (freshman choir), Concert Choir (select mixed choir), Chansons (select women’s choir), Casual Harmony (male a cappella ensemble), The Key of She (female a cappella ensemble), and Stay Tuned (a mixed competitive a cappella ensemble). Ms. Lockart studied voice and music education The College of New Jersey, serving as a soloist and student conductor of the Women’s Choir and Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Michael Mendoza. Ms. Lockart served as Director of Vocal Music at Hackettstown High School (NJ) until relocating to the Cherry Hill area where she has taught for 13 years. Ms. Lockart has served as the conductor for the 2010-2011 All South Jersey Junior High Honor Choir. Ms. Lockart is active with MENC and ACDA, and served as Women’s Choir R&S chair for NJACDA. She was a coordinator at the 2010 ACDA Eastern Division Conference in Philadelphia, and a coordinator and presenter at the 2018 Eastern Division conference in Pittsburgh. Since the growth of her a cappella program at Cherry Hill East HS, Heather has been asked to workshop many a cappella groups in the tri-state area, and leads conference sessions on how to build, grow, and maintain high school a cappella ensembles. Since the inception of her competitive a cappella group in 2012, Stay Tuned has placed 3rd in the country for High School a cappella. In 2015, Stay Tuned was selected as one of two a cappella groups nationwide to be featured in the Lifetime Network docuseries, ‘Pitch Slapped’, which aired in the winter of 2016. They have performed at places like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and have performed at Lincoln Financial field for the Eagles. Each year, Ms. Lockart serves as a judge for the ICHSA and ICCA Varsity Vocals Mid-Atlantic A cappella competitions. The daughter of two professional music educators, Ms. Lockart lives in Mount Laurel, NJ with her daughter and Husband.
