Dr. Cameron LaBarr
Tennessee Chamber Chorus
A native of Richmond, Missouri, Cameron F. LaBarr is the founding artistic director and conductor of the Tennessee Chamber Chorus, a professional choir based in east Tennessee. He has recently been appointed as director of choral studies at Missouri State University. Formerly, he held choral positions at the University of North Texas and Lee University. He holds a bachelors of music from Missouri State University and a masters of music and a doctor of musical arts from the University of North Texas. In April 2014, LaBarr was a fellow at the Salzburg Global Seminar on Peace-Building and the Arts. He will guest conduct in China in July 2014 as part of the International Conductors Exchange Program sponsored by the American Choral Directors Association and the China Chorus Association. LaBarr has worked nationally and internationally as guest conductor and clinician, recently in Alaska, California, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, and South Africa. LaBarr has published articles and reviews in the Choral Journal and The Chorister and edits a choral series with Santa Barbara Music Publishing.
Susan LaBarr
Composer and Editor
Susan LaBarr (b. 1981) is a composer living and working in Springfield, Missouri. Her works are published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Walton Music, and Morningstar Music. In 2015, Susan completed commissions for the National American Choral Director‘s Association Women’s Choir Consortium and for the Texas Choral Director‘s Association’s Director’s Chorus. She served as the Missouri Composer Laureate for 2012 and 2013, and was the Composer-In-Residence for the Tennessee Chamber Chorus (Cleveland, Tennessee) and the Chattanooga Girls Choir (Chattanooga, Tennessee) in 2012.
Susan‘s arrangement of Quem Pastores Laudavere, written for New York Polyphony, was included on their 2014 Grammy award-winning album Sing Thee Nowell. In 2011, Susan’s work Two Songs of Love Lost: Forever Gone and At Dawn of Day won the Opus Award, an award nominated and voted on by members of the Missouri Choral Director‘s Association. In 2015 and 2016, Susan will complete commissions for choirs in Missouri and Pennsylvania, and will have performances at the Missouri Music Educator’s Association conference and the Texas Music Educator’s Association conference.
Central to Susan‘s compositional voice is the knowledge she gained from studying with Alice Parker at her home in Hawley, Massachusetts, where she attended the Composer’s Workshop and Melody Studies Workshop in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
Susan attended Missouri State University in Springfield, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in music and a Master of Music in music theory. Susan, her husband Cameron, and their son Elliott reside in Springfield, Missouri, where Cameron is the Director of Choral Studies at Missouri State University and Susan works as Editor of Walton Music.
